Syphilis RPR

There are several different methods for detecting Syphilis, but every Syphilis test aims to locate the Treponema pallidum bacterium which causes the STD.

The Syphilis test we use (RPR) is performed via a blood sample taken from a vein in the arm. This STD testing searches for antibodies the body creates to combat a Syphilis infection. If they are present in your Syphilis test, then you have been exposed to the Syphilis bacterium.

If you are in the latent stages of a Syphilis infection, the doctor may order a spinal tap to discover whether the central nervous system has been infected. However, this is not part of our STD testing and is only for cases not diagnosed in the early years of an infection.
