Gonorrhea Testing
The urine test is the most common method of Gonorrhea testing. The STD testing for Gonorrhea works by detecting the bacteria that causes the STD - Neisseria Gonorrheae. Unlike the alternative urethral swab, Gonorrhea testing using urine is painless, yet highly effective in detecting genital Gonorrhea. As this test is urine based, the sample can be collected in the lab or the privacy of your own home. On average, the incubation period for Gonorrhea is between a few days to a few weeks.
Patients should withhold urination for at least an hour before collecting their specimen for Gonorrhea testing. The specimen should also be a 'first catch' urine - around 20-30ml - from the initial stream. Larger volumes of urine can cause dilution of the sample and cause confusion during Gonorrhea testing.
