New research has shown that couples that demonstrate some self-restraint on the first date, are more likely to go the distance. The survey shows that men who were prepared to wait to have sex for the first time, tended to make more reliable relationship partners. This might well mean that they are more likely to have taken STD tests in the past.

If a couple is prepared to wait a little longer before having sex, they have time to gleam a little more information about each other before jumping in the deep end. This not only gives them time to take STD tests, but also to get to know each other a little better, which makes for a much more harmonious relationship in the long run.

So, it seems that obeying the rules of first date etiquette and not getting straight into bed can be more rewarding in the long run.

Did a week of sun, sex and silliness at last year’s Spring Break leave you in need of STD testing? Health Services have teamed up with student hair salons and optometrists to host an event promoting student safety during the Spring Break Beach Party.

University of Rhode Island students spent an afternoon being plied with “mocktails” such as non-alcoholic mojitos and strawberry daiquiris, as they were given plenty of information on how to keep safe during Spring Break. From everything to keeping your drink safe from spikers and keeping your skin safe from the sun, to safe sex and STD testing the work shop covered all aspects of Spring Break safety.

The registered nurse leading the event was aiming to convey the message that you can still have one hell of a good time whilst keeping safe at the same time. Attendees had the opportunity to take a skin damage test, and sign up for STD testing.

With more events like these, this year’s Spring Break should be much more safe!

Whilst many people that work in the porn industry are particularly astute when it comes to contraception and STD testing, Los Angeles County Department of Public Health has become aware of an STD crisis within the industry. The AIDS Healthcare Foundation is said to be filing a complaint with regard to the lack of condoms used in the creation of pornographic material. The Foundation believes it can name and shame at least 16 California-based companies that are regularly violating laws by failing to keep their staff safe.

In many people’s opinion, though they do promote STD testing, Los Angeles County has not done enough to safeguard those working in the porn industry, as they only recommend that contraception be used, rather than making it a regulation.

Figures suggest that over a period of 4 years, over 2,000 porn industry members tested positive during STD testing, Los Angles alone. Across America, the figures are likely to be much greater. Suddenly the porn industry doesn’t look so rock and roll after all!

It seems that the naughty noughties have taken on the swinging sixties in the sexual health stakes as a recent survey shows young women of today to engage in nearly three times as much sexual activity as the women of the 60s, leaving them three times as likely to require an STD test.

Women who were in their twenties during the swinging 60s, reportedly had on average only 1.67 sexual partners, whereas women who were in their twenties during the 70s, had had an average of 3.72 partners by the same age. However, the most noticeable increase is shown by the women having sex between the year’s 2000 and 2009, who have had an average of 5.65 sexual partners by the age of 24, with one in ten claiming to have had over 10 partners.

But, does the fact that they may have had over 10 partners mean that they have gone through the process of an STD test ten times? The results of the survey show that though women are having more sex, their inclination to take a regular STD test has so far not increased in correlation.

The 60s may have been labelled a time of sexual revolution, but when it comes to taking an STD test, it seems that women are not moving with the times.

If you’ve been in a long term relationship in the recent past, during which you and your partner had both taken an STD panel and relied solely on the contraceptive pill, it can be difficult to change the rules as and when you change your partner. However, there are 3 very good reasons why you should double up your contraception when engaging in sexual activity with new partners who have not necessarily had that STD panel recently.

1. The contraceptive pill may be a guard against pregnancy, but it cannot protect you against sexually transmitted diseases. If you’ve had unprotected sex whilst on the pill, you might just need an STD panel.

2. All methods of birth control have a failure rate, however minimal it might be. Back up your birth control with a condom and you increase your chances of being 100% safe.

3. It’s good practice. It is all too easy to get into the habit of believing people when they say they have had an STD panel. But with no way of knowing just when that test was taken, and with so many people unaware that they have contracted sexually transmitted diseases, you might just regret taking their word for it. Get into the habit of making sure he wears a condom.

It’s a sad reality that whilst many of us believe our chat up lines and flirtatious advances to be suave, smooth and sophisticated, in the event that they are tried and tested they fall rather flat. If you have ever used any of the techniques outlined in this article, the chances are that the object of your affections will think only that you probably need to get yourself an STD test, rather than getting yourself a date.

Scrap the Slogans
Slogan t-shirts, hats and other various paraphernalia might make you and your mates laugh when they’re on the hanger, but they’re probably not as funny in the cold light of day, and certainly not in the eyes of those that you’re trying to woo. So next time you’re getting ready to go out for the evening and you think about putting on your stud muffin t-shirt (the slogan of which reads “I put the STD in Stud, all I need now is U”) perhaps you should think again. Rather than getting a date, you’re likely to be left with a red hand print across your face, and the questionable outcome of any STD test you might take hanging in the air.

Making Eye Contact
They say that the eyes are one of the most powerful flirting tools available to you. However, what they don’t tell you is how easily an attempt to catch someone’s eyes can be misconstrued. Whilst you may think that you’re gazing seductively at the fitty across the bar, it might well look to them as if they have attracted a stalker of some description. When it comes to making eye contact, be sure to make some other form of contact first. It is better to go up and talk to somebody before you try to lure them with your eyes. Once they’re engaged in conversation, then you can work on batting your eyelashes. Just be sure to choose your opening line carefully, as some areas of conversation are out of bounds on a first meeting – talking about the STD test results you got earlier that day for example, is no way to win yourself a date.

A Facebook Status too Far
Bringing up the topic of safe sex can be difficult, particularly when you’re very attracted to someone. You may think that getting an STD test would be a good way to win their hearts, and you’re right – it might well afford you some brownie points. However, what you definitely should not do, is broadcast your test results on the Internet. A Facebook status that reads “woop woop I’m clean – no STD for me!” might very well be your way of sharing the good news, but it’s a sure-fire way not to get someone into bed. Keep these things to yourself until asked, and whatever you do, don’t try to turn your STD test results into a chat up line.

So next time you see someone that you particularly like the look of across the room, stop and think twice before you open your mouth, stare seductively, or point to the slogan on your t-shirt. These are certainly ways that you won’t get someone into bed, and with these flirting techniques it’s doubtful you’ll need an STD test.

What is it about the City of Angels? The place is literally crawling with scandal and secret, it’s enough to make you hope that STD testing, Los Angeles is a thorough affair as everyone seems to be at it, from senators and stars to mayors and madams.

Hugh Grant

Arguably the most well-known sex scandal in Hollywood involves bumbling British actor, Hugh Grant and a prostitute named Divine Brown.

On June 27, 1995, Hugh’s parked car attracted the attention of locals after the brake lights on his white BMW kept flashing off and on. The strange behaviour was due to the actor pushing his foot down on the brake pedal, whilst Divine was performing a $60 sex act on him. Grant pleaded no contest to the charges, was fined and placed on two year probation. While Hugh’s relationship with Liz Hurley didn’t survive the scandal, Divine went on to make millions. She was able to put her two children through private school through proceeds from the press alone, and her life story now reads like a more x-rated version of Pretty Woman. After a public apology on Jay Leno and a donation to an AIDs charity, Hugh’s career also survived the scandal and the star went onto make a string of great movies. We just hope that Hugh showed some responsibility and undertook STD testing, Los Angeles after the infamous tryst.

Donald Sterling

He may own the Los Angeles Clippers but we certainly hope that Donald Sterling knows a few things about STD testing, Los Angeles after it emerged that he regularly paid a Beverley Hills woman for unprotected sex. The real estate mogul has been sued numerous times for sexual harassment and one former employee described his general aggressiveness towards women in a lawsuit against his company. Sterling was also prosecuted for housing discrimination after refusing to rent to non-Koreans in Koreatown and African-Americans in Beverly Hills. The racist real estate mogul said that he didn’t like to rent to Hispanics because they “smoke, drink and just hang around the building,” and that “Black tenants smell and attract vermin.”

Donald Sterling even made his escort bring in certificates from her STD testing, Los Angeles, to confirm that she was HIV negative so that he could carry on having unprotected sex with both her and his wife.

If there’s someone that knows the importance of STD testing, Los Angeles it’s Heidi Fleiss. She may have recently appeared on the British version of Celebrity Big Brother, but here in the States she’s better known as the Madam of a high class prostitution ring. Heidi made her first million after just four months in the business, and once told journalists that on the slowest night of her company’s existence she still earned $10,000. All that success meant that Heidi could be extra fussy about the girls that worked for her, and her business attracted a number of big name clients in the showbiz world. When quizzed on TV to name some of her regulars, Heidi stated that it wasn’t her style. She believes that it was jealousy that led to her arrest in 1993, something she still very much feels that her competitors were behind. Heidi was arrested on multiple charges in 1993, sentenced to 37 months in prison and her appeal bond was set at $200,000. Fleiss plans to open a brothel in Nevada in the near future, where she will be in competition with her fiancé, Dennis Hof, owner of Nevada’s Moonlite Bunny Ranch.

Bouncing babes in bikinis may have been banned from the iPhone as part of Apple’s plan to keep their digital device family-friendly. However, this hasn’t stopped STDs spreading onto the iPhone. If you’ve been a bit lax in your sexual health recently, the App Smear will allow you to take an STD test on the move simply by scanning the phone across your genital region.

Of course, the App Smear is anything but reliable and if you have been indulging in unprotected sex, then you should probably get an STD test from a certified doctor or gynecologist, and not an iPhone application made by Bearded Jew. However, if you want to have a laugh with your friends and see exactly what STDs they’ve been hiding from you, the App Smear is excellent. With over 50 different outcomes and results tailored towards different sexes, the app also has a more serious side. Not only does it provide information on each of the STDs listed, but it also has an integrated center search tool that makes it quick and easy to find yourself an STD test clinic, in which you can receive proper screening. STDs? There’s an App for that!
